Dr. Stephanie Coen (she/her)
Associate Professor, School of Geography,
University of NottinghamDr. Stephanie Coen is an interdisciplinary health geographer using qualitative, arts-based, and participatory methods to identify and intervene in disparities in health, sport, and physical activity. A core strand of her research uncovers how seemingly taken-for-granted features of sport and physical activity environments shape gendered inequities in participation and injury risk. Coen’s previous knowledge translation professional experience working with scientists and stakeholders to realise the societal benefits of health research underpins her collaborative solutions-focused ethos. Dr. Joanne Parsons (she/her)
Associate Professor, Department of Physical Therapy,
University of ManitobaDr. Joanne Parsons' research program explores the use of resistance training to maximize health and performance as well as decrease sports injury risk across diverse populations. A key piece of this work is considering and exploring how the pervasive gendered environments that surround girls and women may increase their risk of injury and affect participation and performance. Parsons’ clinical training and years spent working on sport sidelines heavily informs a focus on applied practice to ensure her work resonates with knowledge users in order to make real world impact.
